I don’t care if he’s more accomplished than me… well, I’m just jealous. His talents earned him an EP Nirvana and a studio album at a fairly young age, I will break down the tracks for you, based on their popularity. He performed the first single of the album, Lay Me Down, on Saturday Night Live. This song was released in 2013, but still sounds fresh. I think everyone can relate to this song. We’ve all lost someone we wish we could lay by their side, just to see if they are alright. Lyrics “I don’t want to be here, if I can’t be with you tonight” goes back to the theme of longing for someone, what if you cannot have that person next to you that night? But you might get lost in the song when it gets to 3:03, maybe you will forget about that person and enjoy the song. “When I signed my deal, I felt pressure, don’t wanna see the numbers, I wanna see heaven, You say, could you write a song for me? I say, I’m sorry I won’t do that happily.” Ask yourself when you wake up the next morning, are you going to work for money? power? fame? love? attention? Or just to get by… With only few upbeat tracks, one of them: Money On My Mind, served as the second single from the album, which expresses love for music and not the money that comes with it. The current song in everybody’s playlist is Stay With Me, if it’s not in your playlist, get it in there! Stay With Me has a gospel feel to it, even heathens will like – he calls it an anthem for lonely people. This song could be about a one-night stand that went wrong. Leave Your Lover is about a love-triangle, with a video that will make you start asking questions. It was co-written by Simon Aldred, who wrote People Help The People, which was later covered by Birdy, click the link to listen to it. Not In That Way, co-written by Fraser T Smith, who previously worked on Set Fire To Rain, Listen, Broken Strings, If This Isn’t Love, to mention a few… The song is about unrequited love – loving someone who does not love you back. Sam says from this whole album, the lyrics “I’d never ask you, cause deep down I’m certain, I know what you’d say.
‘You’d say ‘I’m sorry, believe me, I love you, but not in that way’” are his favorite.
